Dry Riser Testing

Maintenance?

The annual testing and maintenance of both Dry and Wet Risers is the responsibility of the property owners or managing agents.

British Standard 5306: Part 1 1976 recommends that the system is visually inspected every 6 months and serviced annually to ensure that the equipment is ready for immediate use in an emergency.

In addition, it is recommended that a ‘full wet test’ be carried out annually,comprising of a wet pressure test to 150 PSI or 10 Bar subjecting the mains to a full working test.

Where?

Buildings above 18 metres will have dry or wet risers
Buildings above 60 metres will have wet risers

Dry Riser Valves

Landing Valves
Landing valves used on dry rising mains should normally be of the gate valve type, but global pattern valves are occasionally used. They act as outlets from the rising from the rising main and are fitted in easily accessible positions on each floor above the first floor and sometimes in deep basement areas.

Dry Riser Gate Valves
With 2.5" instantaneous female outlet to BS 336, blank cap and chain, strap and padlock. Dry riser gate valves comply with the requirements of BS 5041: Part 2. Valves can be mounted in boxes complying with BS5041: Part 4.

* Inlet flanged 2.5" BSP or 3" BS Table D or 65mm BS 4504 Table 16/21.
* Inlet screwed 2.5" BSP.

Globe Pattern Landing Valves (LP)
These screw-down stop valves are primarily used as hydrant outlets on wet rising mains, but are occasionally used on dry risers under special circumstances and after discussion with the fire brigade.
